EDM 667 - Humanist Marriage - Take Action
What is happening?
Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, has tabled ‘Early Day Motion’ 667 calling for Humanist wedding ceremonies in England and Wales to have legal recognition, and no longer require an additional registry office ceremony.
In Scotland, humanist wedding ceremonies have been legally recognised since 2005, and there has been a substantial increase in their intake, becoming the fourth most popular form of service, and only shortly behind the number of Catholic wedding ceremonies in Scotland.
What we are doing?
The British Humanist Association has consistently campaigned for equality in marriage laws, and fully supports and endorses EDM 667. We will continue to lobby MPs and Ministers on this matter, and in support of this EDM we have contacted MPs with a parliamentary briefing.
What can you do?
Contact your MP using the BHA’s automated system asking them to affirm their support for equal marriage for humanists
