Notes on the speakers:
Polly Toynbee is a journalist, writer, and has been a columnist for The Guardian newspaper since 1998. She was appointed President of the British Humanist Association in July 2007, and in the same year named ‘Columnist of the Year’ at the British Press Awards.
Dianne Hayter, Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town has served as General Secretary of the Fabian Society, Chief Executive of the European Parliamentary Labour Party and Chair of the Labour Party from 2007-2008. Created a life-peer in 2010, Dianne Hayter is also Chair of the Property Standards Board.
Andrew Copson, BHA Chief Executive since January 2010 after five years coordinating the BHA's education and public affairs work. His writing on humanist and secularist issues has appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, The Times and New Statesman.
Kelvin Hopkins, Member of Parliament for Luton North. Prior to being elected in 1997, he worked within the trade union movement. Hopkins currently serves on the Transport Select Committee and is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Humanist Group, and a Distinguished Supporter of the BHA.
